they rated them at 260 crank hp from the factory, most guys see anywhere from 220-230 horses at the rear wheels when put on a dyno (the 5 speed loses about 15% through the drivetrain, and the automatics lose 20-25% i believe). torque is rated at either 302 or 305 ft-lbs. when you say the coil, you mean the ignition coils right? each cylinder has its own ignition coil, they bolt directly onto the spark plugs (coil-on-plug, or "COPs"). the coils are interchangeable from '99-'04. and yeah your car has the PI heads, cams, and intake. the only 4.6s that came with non-PI were '96-'98, all of the 4.6 SOHC engines from '99-'04 have the PI top end. if you're ever ordering parts for your transmission (shifter, etc), i believe your car has the Tremec 3550. sometime in the middle of 2001 they changed to the Tremec 3650, so just be aware of that also.

Didn't he say he had a 99? 99s and 00s have T-45 transmissions. The motor in the 99s and 00s are also slightly different than the 01-04s. They have Windsors motors instead of Romeo. Both are rated at the same horsepower. Both have PI heads and the heads are interchangeable, but the Windsor has 13/14 bolt valve covers and the Remeo has 11 bolt valve covers. The motors also have a slightly different cranks.

Yes T45 trans on his car. Also, another difference between the 99-00's and the mid 01's-04 is 5 quart oil capacity vs. 6 quart capacity, respectively.

If I'm not mistaken Ford threw some of the non-PI 4.6's in some of the 99 GTs. (left over motors from 98) I would never get a 99-mid 01 GT because of the T-45 alone.

yeah i said '99-'04 Mustangs, meaning new edge Mustangs, to my knowledge have the PI motors. i'm unaware of any non-PI motors being in any '99 Mustangs, i certainly hope there aren't.

Thats pretty ridiculous. Do you think the TR3650 found in the mid01-up GTs is much better?

neither one are anything to brag about. both have their problems, its just picking the lesser of 2 evils.
