Default 04 cobra motor in 96 GT

What would I have to change to put an 04 cobra motor in a 96 gt?

probably quite a bit... but it would be worth it...

ecu, wiring harness, clutch, flywheel, tranny maybe (alot more power to hold)

there's a guy on the ModularFords forum that did a 4V swap and used his stock ECU and wiring harness ('97 Cobra engine into a 2000 GT). i'm not sure of the exact details of the swap, but what i understand is that the motor he used originally had the coil packs rather than coil-on-plugs, but he just used COPsanyway and the stock computer was fine. the computer doesn't know whether you've got 16 or 32 valves, so i don't see why the stock ECU wouldn't work. as long as you tune it right, then it shouldn't be a problem. i know a lot of people will just tell you to buy a Cobra instead, but if it were me i'd rather just do a 4V swap into my '02 GT because i would take more pride in doing the work myself rather than just buying a car with the engine already in it (that and the fact that most Cobras i've found are upwards of $20k so i'd rather do an engine swap that costs maybe $10k and keep my current car). i'd definitely look into getting a Cobra motor & tranny together rather than using the motor with your stock tranny.

That was one of my first questions on here. are you using the t56 to? lf so you will need to fabricat the tranny mount and the driveshaft may need to be shortened. the six speed is the way to go.

^ to add onto texas_stang02's response.... Insurance would be cheaper too. GT insurance Vs. Cobra insurance

it'd probably be cheaper to get a built 2v with a blower and more power.
