Default Strut install question! Urgent!

So I installed KYB shocks and struts...and the struts are coming up through the engine compartment when I put the car down, thank God I left the hood open! I must not have put all the pieces on the top of the strut that I should have! Can someone help an idiot? Do I need to put parts that are sitting on the old strut back on, can someone give me a guide to the order these need to go on in! Help please! Thanks so much!!! The KYB install instructions are CRAP!

There should have only been one main bolt that you needed to have taken off the top of the strut, that is the main one. Take that one bolt off and it should have pulled right down when the bottom was disconnected.

Sounds like you forgot to put the bolts that hold the top of the strut on...?...

No, they are on. The whole strut just comes up through the hole in the body. There must be something I missed...

Ooops my bad, There are 4 bolts that take the top off. The main one and the three smaller ones.

i bet your lowered quite a bit right? well if thats the case you shouldve went with a set for a fox bodied mustang. theyre a little shorter and work better on lowered sn95s than the "correct" struts.

You need to remove the entire top piece off the original strut which isattached to the dust boot,it is hard to do because the strut will want to spin as you try to take the nut off, so you need to use some locking pliers or a viceattached to ascrew driver that goes verticly into the strut top, its kinda confusing to type it out and make sensebut you will see.

Thanks Eugene! So, that's what I have done...but now the strut doesn't come up far enough through the hole to get the nut on! Argh! Am I an idiot?

Alright, I still need help! Can anyone walk me through the pieces from the old shock that you put on the new one? There is a rubber thing, a 2 or 3 inch metal cylinder, and the plastic boot thing in the picture above. Now I have th strut bolted at the bottom, and can't get it far enough up through the fenderwell to mount it. I have been doing tons of searches, everyone says how easy this install is, but the directions from KYB SUCK and I just don't know what to put where. Really struggling...please!
