What cars have 4.6L PI donor motors in them?

I recently cracked a head on my 98 Mustang GT 4.6L NON PI motor. I have decided that since I am getting in to it this far I might as well update the motor to a PI. I am considering either getting another set of PI heads and intake manifold rebuilt and install them on it or getting an entire used PI motor and dropping that in.

In this thread I want to know what donor vehicles should I be looking at for a used 4.6L PI motor? I know the obvious 1999-2004 Mustang is a great donor but I am wondering what other vehicles would have at least a long block and intake manifold that could be fitted with the stuff coming off my 98. I got the following list from a intake manifold supplier:

All these use the same intake manifold according to the manifold supplier. I am assuming that the cams are the same, Is that correct?

According to a company that sells Ford crate 4.6PI’s for the 96-04 mustangs, if I were to buy their crate motor I would have to do the following to their crate motor:

1996-1998 Mustangs will have to use original vehicle engine wire harness, original coil pack/plug spark plug wire system, and original non-variable PVC.This is a very easy swap.

I am really looking to keep the costs down as much as possible. This is my daily driver and I wasn’t dissatisfied with the power it had, I just can’t pass up the idea of the PI upgrade.

Anything else I need to know about while doing this conversion?

crown vic, explorer, f150, mustang, all carry a 4.6l but just go buy the heads off ebay for a couple hundred.

I'm already leaning that way but i want to find out what the going rate is for complete motors befor I go there. Ebay heads don't seem to be as cheap as I would have thought, but I am sure I can get some cheaper locally.

id look around for a 4.6 4v, such as from a mark VIII.

+1 on the four valve. At the worst try and find yourself a PI explorer motor with the aluminum block

I'm thinking that the conversion to a 4v would not be a slam dunk and probably end up with difficulties for smog in California. The aluminum blocked Explorer thing sounds interesting though. What years came with the aluminum 4.6 PI?

Note: A friend of mine just rolled his '00 F150 making his 4.6 up for grabs. HOWEVER it is NON-PI. Not ALL 4.6s went PI in '99. SO be careful. This info came from an employee of the Windsor Ontario plant.
