Default Can you make you clutch work better?

I noticed that over the past year or so slowly the clutch pedal has been harder to push in, and I notice once and a while it gets easy to push in. I was wondering is there any maintaince that I can do to either "lube" the clutch cable with graphite or wash out the clutch plate area, just wondering if this would make a difference, or hurt anything??

i got some graphite aresol spray and sprayed it into the cable as best i could.its tough because there isnt much room between the cable and the insulation around the cable. Seemed to help a lot though...
