Default breaking in 4.10's

im picking up 98 cobra from the shop tomorrow. i just got 4.10s installed and i was wondering how many miles would i have to drive for the heating cycle whatever? and then after that, how long would i have to drive before i can fully break them in?

So does "heat cycling" consist of not going full throttle on the gears right away for 50 miles or what?

Yeah, you just want to take it a little easy for the first 50 miles or so. The best thing to so is take a little cruise, then stop and let them cool. Then just drive normal for 20+ miles or so, finally go to the track and rip the SHIAT out of them....LOL

haha yeah, I'm probably putting my gears on this Wednesday because my uncle is free to install them for me (i'll be skippin school ). Ironically my friends and I had planned to go to the track that night and take a few runs but if I have to break them in I guess I'll have to go another time.

I've got the high school drags coming up at the end of this month too so the 4.10s will kick *** I bet in that.

on the gear note, why do they heat up?

anytime u drive the rear end gears heat up b/c of friction. its just that u want to make sure that since you F'ed w/ them they expand correctly and the fluid loobs the gears.
