Ok my owner's manuals says to use 5W30, but it seems like most everyone is using 5W20 motor oil. Did Ford publish one thing int he manual and then later change the recommendation to
5W20? Seems like I remember this being the case with gear oil too. The manual says one thing and then they come back and change it to something else.

i beleive 01-04 they changed it to 5w20...i got a 2000 and ive always used 5w30

i used 5w20 once by mistake with no problems tho

you better be using Mobil 1 synthetic either way tho

mine says 5W20 on the cap, but i run 5W30 anyway.... it wont hurt anything.

as for the gear oil, i know they changed it to 75W140 in 02 or 03

Either is fine. I run 5w30 RP only because thats what my parts store carries in stock.

They switched to a lighter weight to try and squeeze a little more mpg's out of it.

I run 5w20 Mobil 1. Never had any problems.

It says right on my oil cap 5W20. I use Castrol Synthetic which is what my owners manual says to use

i work as a mobil rep, and ford started using 5w20 in 2000 on some models, and all in 2001. but ford did not change any internals for the oil switch. i have a 2000 gt and it calls for 5w30 under the hood in the catylsit. also the 5w20 is used to lower emisions.
