i have a 97 svt dohc cobra that is supercharged and was just wondering what gears would be better the 3.73 or the 3.90? i drive about 30 min to an hour on the highway everyday to get to work and back in orlando but thats about it. what would be the bets to get the most of my car?

get ford 3.73. everybody will tell you the same thing. for makes the best gears and they don't make 3.90s. i drive on the highway quite a bith with my 3.73 and it's fine. heck, i'd say get 4.10. when you get yours gears, you'll be regretting getting them at all, then you'll regret not going higher. 4.10 is definately the way to go. jdaniel did a nice highway run on his 4.10s and got really good gas mileage.

actually they do make 3.90s just not from ffrp

If I were you i would get the 3.90s, since your s/c, But i definatly agree that you might regret gettin the 3.73s

I've found Motive Gears to be just as good as FRPP... they make 3.90s which would probably be best case for your car.

Since he's supercharged? Many will tell you to go with 3.73s because of the blower. Go with FRPP, I dont know about Motive Gears.....I have a rear end rebuild kit from motive and its great, but I have FRPP 3.73s, only the best for my car.

that's easy, because one person says 3.73 is better because of like 1 out of 5 people have bad experiences with it, so it must be true. just like SLP. everybody hated them, now tons of people are getting them. they HAD a bad rep of being raspy, but oh, people actually heard them and realized they weren't. same case here. everyone says 3.73 for F/I because someone probably made up a story as why it was better, but you have people running 4.10s with a blower.

Exactly, these gear/exhaust discussions are pointless, but they do help a lot of people. Its all preference, you just have to go with a certain gearing and see if you like it. If not, change it.

The reason you dont want too much gear with a blower is simply because in a 1/4 mile, you, ideally want to finish at the top of 4th gear. MD swapped out his 4.10s because he knew he had potential for a higher MPH in the quarter than the 4.10s would allow without shifting into 5th(which would slow everything down). It's as simple as that. The more power you have(we're talking 400+ numbers here), the less gear you need/want in order to maximize your time/MPH.

My wife's supercharged Stang has 4.10's and I "think" the 3.73's would be better for all around driving.
