Default Engine's on its way out. Time for some options gents.

Ok, well, my plans on getting a Vert just flew out the window. I found out my beautiful 97 GT has not only been in a front end collision, but has a bad chain tensioner as well. Price to fix: $1000 or so. Now, who in their right mind would pay that much to fix a non-PI engine? Not me[&:] So, I can't sell my car and I can't fix the motor without being a complete retard.

So here's the question. Let's say that I want to spend around $3000, maybe $4000. Maybe that much. So what to do, what to do what to do Of course, I need to get something forged. So what do I choose? 2v? 4v? Stroked? N/A, Boosted? What would you do??

Here are the goals:
600 hp or so when finished
Supercharged with not too much boost
NO2 to top her off (and to get over the 600 hp mark)

I know I need to build the tranny and rear end as well, but let's forget that for a minute. What engine would YOU put in this car for that money so I can not worry about 600 hp bothering it? I want to do this right, so let's figure out how. Throw your ideas out there everyone

NOTE: I have some ceramic coated Mac Long Tubes in my closet that fit my current engine and I would LOVE not to have to get rid of those.

a built 4.6 with some boost. to get to the 600 mark your talkin about alot of work.... 3-4k wont cut it... n/a you wont get it. especially since you will need new heads, cams, and intake. you can get the shortblock for around 2500-3000. then if you want reworked heads your lookin at around 1800 then 500 for the cams and atleast 160 if you just want a stock pi intake.

Why not just try and fix it? It not that hard just time consuming. Take a weekend and get it done.

I would go with a MMR 900 shortblock $2500 which has all forged internals with a cobra crank so you will need a 8 bolt fly which are like $200. Then I would get some Patriot heads $1200 and VT stage 2 cams $550. And either a stock PI manifold or aftermarket like trickflow, prof prod, THR.

Or use your block and buy the 5.1 stroker from Mustangs Unlimited for $1200. Have it balanced and put into your block. Either route you take buy all new chains, tensioners, guides since its out already.

This is true, but I think I'd rather start on this bad boy than fix anything. I'm not saying I can make 600 hp with my budget right now. All I'm asking is what I should do for an engine so I can throw whatever I want at it later and not worry about it.

Yea i guess i was just thinking that with your engine fixed you could sell it for $ towards a new one...But then what would be the point.
