lowering springs install
looking at getting some lowering springs, and was wondering how hard the install is? also if needed can you rent air impact tools at like napa or some places like that?

RE: lowering springs install
Word is they're pretty easy to install yourself and you don't need an air compressor tool. BUT, I havn't installed them myself.
Maybe someone can confirm this?
I also had a question (not to hijack the thread), but do you need camber plates if you do a 2' drop ? Also, do you need anything else other than the springs and camber plates?
Thanks

RE: lowering springs install
c/c plates depend on which springs you get, and there is a gray area. the best way to figure out if you need them or not is to see if other people who used the same springs neeed them to get the car in proper alignment.
new shocks and struts are a good idea because you're probably due to replace them anyway, and you're gonna be removing a lot of the same parts to replace springs as when you replace shocks and struts.

RE: lowering springs install
I installed the ford racing c-springs in my car with the help of my dad. It was not a hard process at all. You don't need any special tools or a spring compressor, etc.
I do agree with what was said earlier, hardest part is getting the old ones out...be careful not to launch the spring out toward yourself. I do advice you use some sort of mini pry bar...it made my install very easy.

RE: lowering springs install
Once you take the wheel off and disconnect everything (brake caliper and other things necessary to drop the rotor) the spring will bend out toward you. Take a small pry bar and put it into the bottom of the spring and pull up while keeping pressure forward because when the spring relaxes it will want to "shoot" toward you...I had no problem with this though. If you have any further ?'s just ask!!!

RE: lowering springs install
Once I dropped my lower arm, the spring was pretty much decompressed, and mine did not do any "bending" nor did it even want to shoot out at me (that would of scared the crap out of me if I saw it bend under pressure)
Just make sure you have your car up high enough and have plenty of room to swing your control arm down. You will easily be able to tell when its down enough. the key is to slowly release the tension off the spring witha jackplaced under the lowercontrol arm.You should be able to lower the jack to the point where you can remove it from under the control arm. ONce your at that point grap a small pry bar and wedge the old spring out, there should be very little stored energy by that point.
If you know how a suspension works and how components interact with each other, it is a very easy job. Unless you run into rusted bolts, it should take you about 30min to get the old spring out.
Oh... one more thing, disconnect the sway bar links; it will make things a million times easier.
