camshaft positioning sensor and more...

Been having a problem starting my car intermittently. It started out like it was either out of fuel or timing was off. After couple of tries it would start fine. My cel came on a couple of days ago. Said I had a bad camshaft positioning sensor. Replaced that and it still didn't go off. Searched and found that a bad alternator could cause that. Took the car to autozone to get it checked. Said it was putting out right voltages, but then hooked an ammeter and said the current was low at idle. Came up as a bad diode pattern. Took the alternator off to replace it. A different store checked it off the car and said it tested fine. Anyways, reinstalled and same code came on. I have a 2200+ watt stereo system with a dual battery setup. If I unhook it from the system and/or back battery and reset the computer, cel will go off. So makes me come to the conclusion I need a HO alternator. I just hate guessing because it can become expensive. Any other ideas???? And if HO alt is needed, what size would be the best bet???? Gotta love the waterfall effect!!!! You do/fix one thing and 3 more arise because of it!!!!!!

does your car backfire every once in awhile but drives perfectly? If so, I had same issue and replaced 2 cam sensors and altanator it fixed the problem.

Yea, it drives perfect otherwise. As of backfiring, I cut off the mufflers, just cats and h-pipe. So have some popping and crackling at deceleration, but nothing out of the ordinary. Just not for sure if stock alternator will fix the problem because of the stereo. Guess what I'm asking would I have to go w/ HO alt with the setup. I have ran dual battery setups on other cars w/ stock alts w/ no problems. I have a deep cycle battery to run amps. With stock alt I can get lifetime warranty, HO only carries 1 year and are more expensive.

u might be better off getting a HO alternator with all that wattage.
