Default Race help.......

Ok....Sat. is the first day Tri-State(local dragstrip) is open. It's going to be test & tune day so I am going to run. I am sure you guys read thousands of post like this but......any advice on launching with a standard shift? I am figuring on dropping the clutch about 2500-3000 and throttling it out from there. I am all stock except for weld in mufflers and a K&N. I am hoping for a 14.1 or better and will post up my timeslips regardless of what I run. Also what rpm would be optimum to shift at?

Thanks for your input,
Chris.

actually, if you're all stock, then you lose a tremendous amount of torque on the 2nd gear betwwen 4500-5500 rmps. Don't shift at red there. 4300 on 2nd to 3rd, and then at about 5800 for 3rd, and 4th. But I do concur with dms king, dropping the clutch at any higher than 2500 rmps will spin the tires too much and lose you some valuable time. The key is to find the right rpm to launch your car without any tire spin--practice, practice, practice! Bring back the time slips, ya hear? Good luck!

It would be a miracle if you got 14.1 with what you've got. I'm looking for what you are with what I have.

keep in mind ur max power is at 5200 rpm's so u want to shift a hair past that. because second gear is so much taller thas 1st it is the only gear u want to red line to to get in to the engines power band in second after that shift at 5400 and u will be straight trust me.
