Default Mach 1 Engine Conversion question..s...

hey, i found a used 2003 Mach1 engine that i can get for a pretty good price but i have some questions about swapping it into my car...

First off, i have a 98 GT, all i have done to it really is just exhaust (x-pipe) and intake manifold...

now i was wondering:

The motor i found is an "Automatic version" what does that mean? i have a stick, will it be compatible without a lot of extra work and if there are parts i need to convert it would i be able to use them from my car, example: put my flywheel on the Mach 1 motor??? if that is the only difference?

Also, it does not include any front accessories, will my accessories fit onto this motor? will they line up with the crank pully? and if not can i swap my pulley onto the motor to make it work?

if i come up with any more questions that i might have forgotten i will post them later.

Thanks for the help

you will need the computer. other than the the automatic version had a cast crank where as the stick version had a forged crank. don't quote me on the rpm's of each but i believe it was 6.2k for the auto and 7k for the stick

ok, now a few more questions...

you said i would need a new computer, now i have a new diablo sport chip tha can be programmed, would i just need to have it tuned to the new engine? or would i need something completely different?

Also, i have an opinion question for all of you out there... :-) Here is what i am stuck between doing:

I could buy this motor, 2003 mach1, for $2700 with like 16000 miles on it

or

I've been looking at doing this for a while: buy PI heades, some nice cams, and possibly headers, which i can do for around $2400 and also get a few more horsepower out of it.

Now which would yall do? with the Mach1 i would get an almost new engine, with DOHC, plus only a few less horses, and just doing the HEads and stuff, i would have a few more horses, but i would also have an eninge that was 7 years old with 80000 miles on it...

Thanks for the input

Keep looking for the manual version of the mach motor. 7k redline > 6.2 redline.

Tough call bro. I am a fan of knowing what has happend & been done to my engine. Was the Mach in an accident? Is that why it doesn't come with the front accessories (I assume you mean pully's & the like?)? You also have to look at the work involved in the change-over vs. the time & work for the mods you suggested. If you tear into your current powerplant, you can look at the bearing journals & such & see where you strand. Perhaps then you can make a decision as to continue with ALL the mods or tear down further & rebuild the whole motor & reduce the number of mods (or buy a Mach I engine). Personally, I hate getting into complicated projects & running into roadblocks every other day when trying to "make somehting work" with all the right parts, etc..; For this reason, I'd do the mods. Hope this helps.

Yeah the auto version isn't worth upgrading to. You would be better off sticking with a SOHC setup unless you can get a stick version.

Now, if you can get a stick version, you can spray the hell outta it

If that's true about the forged crank. I would certainly get the stick version. 7000 rpms is sick!

personally i would find a stick version and mod it. in the long run you would have more ponies.
and like Aongus said - make sure you know the history of the car/engine.

wouldnt he have to modify/replace his hood as well to accommodate the shaker?
