351 build or 5.4 swap???????

RE: 351 build or 5.4 swap???????
Good luck trying to find someone to install a 5.4 for $1000.00I called Paul Svicki(?) from Pauls High Performance. They had done a swapin an 03' and spend over 100 hours on it. He told me that unless you are a fabricator,or know one. You'll drown spending money doing it. He told me to do a Cobra Swap.Much easier. The 5.4 will look awesome in your car. But you'll be broke doing it...

I gotta say, if you have the time/money to do a 351 swap, I don't see the point of putting it in a new edge frame. with the ease/results you can get from a foxbody setup....
Its going to be an easy 5-8K invested in the engine alone to build a real stout 351 combo (stout enough to make it worth it anyway IMO) and then thousands more to get it in and running. Once you start comparing it to what a 4.6L 2v you already have could do (similar cost) its hard to justify, unless your just doing it for the "nobody else has one" factor.
I am looking forward to seeing your results with the 5.4L/blown setup, simply to see what kind of numbers the car puts down compared to a 4.6L with a similar setup. Should be fairly easy to compare with all the blown/built 4.6L setups out there.

I think the idea of a EFI 351 in a new edge would be pretty cool.

I would only agree with the 5.4 info though. I'm doing ( 2 years now) a 5.4 2v swap and I have a lot more time in this then you would think. To me if you're just going to grap a stock 5.4 and throw it in your car, don't waste your time. Unless your engine is on it's way out, find something else to do. If you're going to do a 5.4 take the time to buy some supporting mods ie heads, cams and things of that nature.
Edit: On a side note I have made the first progress on my car in about 6 months. I may actually get it running this spring. So we can finally see if it was worth a damn or not.

You realise that without spending major coin on a H/C setup for this its basically pissing in the wind right? Just swapping a stock navi motor is NOT going to be worth the hassle and money its going to cost.

I am really leading more toward the 5.4 swap. But after reading the thread on A.M. forum thread ( mentioned above ) They talk about being able to do the 5.4 swap for just over a grand. I cant seem to find a 5.4 for less than $4,500. Any suggestions other than craigslist or ebay? I would like to find a Navi that has been smashed in the a$$ and just buy the whole dam thing.

RE: 351 build or 5.4 swap???????
I agree with you fully moose. My motor isnt on its way out at all. It has under 80k on it and runs very strong. As for the money issue, This isnt going to be a weekend job. I am planning on spending about a year doing it. I have never gone the cheap route on anything I buy as I am a strong beleiver of "ya get what ya pay for". Every mod on my car right now is basically top notch as far as reputaion, quality, and cost. My plan is tearing the motor down and rebuilding with all components or my liking, not "just throwing in a 5.4". I dont ever "just throw" anything in my car.

Good luck getting a 5.4 4v with a KB under a hood. You're going to need quite the cowl for that.[:-]

Well then I would say if that's what you want to do, go for it. If you take the time to build it then I think it will be very worth it in the end. That would be an awesome set up.
You're going to be driving with your head out the window straight Ace Venture style because you would be able to see out the front of the car.

Hey, there's no shame in letting your junk hang out. I can't afford a hood right now and the stock one doesn't clear anymore so I'm just going to be running hoodless until I can get one. So I'm going to be showing it all!
