? about Royal Purple motor oil
Is it THAT good? Are there any tests comparing it to other synthetics? On my last motor I ran Mobil 1 and loved it, now I'm at 5000k+ miles and about to switch to synthetic for the new motor. I bought some Royal Purple ($7.49/qt!!!) but haven't heard much to convince me that it's better than the Mobil 1 that I can get for less than $30 a gallon (so I may return it and pick up Mobil 1). What are the facts about this? I don't want to hear...'a friend of a friend runs it and like it' or 'I have it and it's good', I'd like to know why it's good and if it's worth the extra coin.

RE: ? about Royal Purple motor oil
Ive always been afraid to post what i really think about Royal purple because it's reached god status for alot of mustang owners on a lot of boards.
Personally, i think it's crap. I've seen oil analysis on it, both virgin and used, and they have all been poor. Low TBN retention, stupid additive package with a 'blend of synerlock additives' emphasis on blend. Meets no specs, instead cleverly worded, to give that impression. clever advertising. IIRC it's not even DOT approved. I would never run that crap.
But get ready for all their users to back it up- it's users have alot of faith toward the product, and i suppose theres nothing wrong with that. It cost too much for what it is, i think they just charge you for the color and advertising.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and correct me with sources, but oils don't get DOT approved or not, they get approved by API. Royal Purple has an API stamp. As for the analysis, can you post the analysis?
As for 7.49 for a quart...go over to American Muscle, free shipping and a quart is 6.49, plus you get the 6% savings if you know they code. PM me if you need it.

RE: ? about Royal Purple motor oil
you are correct, i'm trying to find something it doesn't meet. I thought it couldn't meet some sort of spec. because it is purple, and the industrial color for engine oil is suppose to be some shade of yellow- i'll keep looking into it.

Go to royalpurple.com. Check out why use royal purple they have individual tests showing small power gains, made a 9 hp increase on a ls1 engine. Compared to conventional it reduces engine wear, heat, emissions, fuel economy

Thanks guys, I returned it and got Mobil 1 for $4.99/ qt. I'm not doubting that RP is better than conventional oil, I just don't see where it's better than Mobil 1 and the price doesn't make it attractive. Hell that close to the price of Amsoil!

RP, Mobil1, and Amsoil are all awesome oils. I have been running RP for the last year, cause I got a deal on a couple of cases. Ther is no reason (a 3 dollar a quart reason) to use it instead of Mobil1. I would just go with what you can get the cheapest between the three. They are all much better than conventional oils.
