Some lady at ATI (Procharger company... exploring other superchargers), sd they don't recommend more than 8#s of boost on a 2001 and up mustang, but they recommend up to 12 lbs on a 99 - 2000 gt because they have stronger rods. She said the widsor 4.6's (like mine) were made with softer material rods than were the romeo 4.6's made in 99-2000. WTF is this all about? Anyone else heard of it or is she talkin out her a$$?

There are rods in the heads but they are only like an inch long if that. They had a picture of them in either 5.0 Mustang or MMFF its one of there later issues

I think he's referring to connecting rods...just a hunch. Anyway, not sure about stronger rods in a 99-00 GT. Personally I wouldn't assume any rods put in a factory engine will hold up to any decent amount of boost over time, just because quality is not of major concern on the assembly line, unless it's something like a Cobra. I would double-check that info before you decide it's true. If you plan on supercharging though, it's always a good idea to beef up the bottom end, because with a supercharger, you KNOW you're going to get on it from time to time, and taking the time to do it right before-hand is better than having a huge headache after the fact when you bust a ring land and carve up your piston wall with a chunk of piston. I've read several articles that say the pistons and rods are the weakest points of any 4.6GT engine.

On a stock motor, the magic number is 400-420RWHP. So 12psi boost is going to depend on how many other mods you have on the car anyway. Our cars dont have forged internals to begin with so one non-forged rod thats stronger than another non-forged rod really doesnt give me much consolation. And mdvaldosta, you prolly have the same concerns as I did before I purchased my s/c. How much will the stock motor handle? I honestly feel that you can do 400RWHP and sleep good at night. One thing I am doing however is saving up for a forged short block so when that "day" comes I can be prepared.

ok there is a possibility that she was referring to the bolt pattern on the flywheel as far as meeting the crank. the 99-00 windsors had an 8 bolt pattern whereas the 01-03 romeo flies had 6 which the mounting boltswere also made of a softer composite metal this is fact reference 5.0 mustang magazine november issue if you need proof. I really dont think she knew what she was talking about based on what you said it sounds as if she was told to specify that to customers by someone who had a clue or thought they did anyway. anyway i know 2 people who are running 10 and 12 on a 01 and 02' and they are powerhouses without a problem yet.
