Its precise enough that almost every vortech install you have ever seen has it this way. its hard to screw up unless you have no mechanical knowledge at all... in which case what exactly are you doing installing a supercharger?
Lets put it this way, if you can't get this procedure right (centerpunch, punch, tap, install) then you certianly don't have the skills to get the oil pan out and then braze on a nut....

Mechanics ear a very tidy living off of some of these types.
As for the Vortech kits, yes punching the pan is the method of choice however it's also the one part of the install that people screw up the most which is why the kits that use internal oil make a big deal in their advertising literature out of not having to punch and tap the pan.
The newest Vortech line doesn't require an oil line I believe.
For some reason people think the oil pan is made out of 1/2 in thick armour plate and they tend to slam the hammer on it thus making a mess.
The other problem is that many people don't have a clue how to properly use a tap and thus end up with a crooked hole with uneven pitched threads that will leak.
I've seen this happen more than a couple of times.
I agree with you though that someone who can't follow directions and doesn't have medium mechanical skills should not even try doing this.
And obviously these same people shouldn't even try brazing or welding
