Im trying to help my friend make his 99 gt sound a little better, right now he doesnt have the money for an exhaust set up...

Would gutting the cats mess anything up like the 02 sensors... or would it not matter?

yeah it would flag the rearO2s, probably not right away, but after about 50-100 miles the CEL should come on. Best bet would be a cheap set of mufflers (flowtech maybe)

true on the cheap mufflers, damn near anything sounds good on a mustang.

just weld some pipe in place of the mufflers, thats how my stang was when i bought it and it sounded pretty good. wont cause a cel either.

you can gut the cats and make some MIL eliminators for about 5$ from radio shack. theres a couple how-to guides around here.

then find some cheap used mufflers when he gets a little cash
