RE: QUICK! What tools do i need for a crank pulley swap on my 99 gt??
George,, put the car in 4th gear to keep it from moving!
It'll barely inch at first b/c of some slack, but after that, it's not going ANYWHERE.
as for replacing that seal.....hmm.. if i remember correctly, its that small black one that goes right in teh middle of the timing chain cover.
I'd imagine you would at least have to drain the engine oil, and remove the fan/coolant resivoir and crank pulley to see what it looks like.
At least that much you can do yourself.

This is for 99black, you don't need to remove the cover to change the seal as stated before, just remove the dampener, use a seal puller/removal hook to get it out and then either the proper seal driver, socket or something the same size as the seal to drive the new one in. BUT, and this may be important, you may not have a bad seal at all. You said you changed the pully and then it started to leak, well when you changed it did you load up the keyway with RTV before installing it because if not, that is where a lot of them leak from. Check again to seeif the oil is coming from the center of the pulley, around the bolt, or the back of it where the seal is, either way you'll need to remove the dampener again to fix it but the seal may be fine.
As to the original question, there is a tool thats used to hold the dampened while tightening the bolt, see if AutoZone or your parts place has one you can rent, if not there are a few other ways to do this being that its an automatic which makes this a bit of a PITA, good luck to both.

I also remembered something while driving the car. In first gear, when the vibration is kinda faint between 1400-1800rpms, if i keep it in that range while im going through a turn, the vibration is gone completely. Could that mean anything? If the crank or flex plate is off balance, i dont see how turning would affect that. [&:]
