Got bad feeling about this!!

Driving home today on the highway on cruise control the cara 03 GT auto, i notice that the car is reving up and down doing 60 mph like it the tranny was slipping. so i take it out of cruise control and slow down a bit turn off the overdrive and its fine no slip. theres also no slip in 1st or 2nd. I have been told that these 4w70r tranny's has a weak overdrive gear but i didn't think it was that bad the car has only 25000 miles on it and i havent abused it in higher gears. is there anything this else causeing this or is my transmission toast.

Thanks

Not so much.. Check your fluid level, just to be sure....

Does the car only do it in OD, does your spedo bounce around as well, if so it could be a (VSS) vehicle speed sensor.

Pauly_B,

I hate to break it to you but your overdrive gear is nearly shot. Meaning, your tranny is shot. Why do I say this? My GT started this back around the end of March just out of the blue and had NEVER given me any problems. Like you, I don't hot rod my car. I baby it. I was driving home with my cruise set on 70mph and I noticed the RPM kept going up and down and I'm like...WTF? I took it out of overdrive and it stopped. Once I put it back into overdrive it would rev up to 3000rpm before shifting...then it got to 3500...and so on until it would rev up to 5000rpm and wouldn't shift into overdrive. I took it to a tranny shop the very next day and they confirmed that my overdrive gear was toast and I'd have to have it rebuilt or buy another.

Here's MY post on what my car was doing.

If I were you, I'd check out car-part.com, that's where I located my transmission. I purchased it from an auto-salvage in South Carolina and had it sent to my mechanic for a total price of $625 and the tranny had less than 9000 miles on it. When I got it, it looked like brand new. It shifts perfectly, etc.

Pauly, check the link I PM'd you. I did the search for a 4.6 AOD 4r70w transmission.
