If your car is a stick, with your windows down and the car running push the cluth in and see if the ticking goes away, if it does its your throw out bearing or release bearing which ever you want to call it in your clutch.

If you couldn't pinpoint the noise with a mechanics steth, I would start blaming pulleys or check out your clutch.

But it sounds similar to a timing chain.

That would be your release bearing (throw out bearing) You can replace just the bearing but most mechanics will want you to go ahead and replace the clutch while there in there so it doesnt come back on you when your clutch goes out and your thinking DAMN why didnt i replace my clutch when he did that bearing! But its your call, they will probably charge just as much labor for putting in the bearing as in replaceing the clutch.

I just had a new clutch put in and the guy said everything looked great but the clutch. So is it ok if i ignore the noise? or do I have to get it fixed?
