Default PI Swap on Older Engine

Question. I have a 1996 Mustang GT with 135K miles on it. I just purchase a set of used PI Heads for a great price along with the PI Intake Manifold. I was considering porting and polishing the heads which would run me about $600 to do with MMR. I spoke to MMR today and the rep told me that he is worried that due to the higher compression and these being newer heads I may suck or burn more oil. He thinks that the increased compression would cause oil to leak around the piston rings.

I am looking for some consensus on this because if this is that case I will just go ahead get them cleaned and install them with stock cams and save up for a new engine. I just want to make sure I was not being talked into a new engine block.

Thanks,
Jag

I have an engine with similar mileage to yours (just turned 140) and i believe that it wouldnt really be worth a pi swap. we both unfortunately are stuck with a 2v. . look for a cheaper 4v cobra engine with lower mileage andrebuild it ifit needs ittheres much more potential and if u do a PI swap your compression is no good for a supercharger if u plan on that in the future.

I already purchased the used PI Heads so I might as well rebuild and put them in. I guess I will forgo the porting though. I will just save up the cash for a new crate engine further down the line. I have been reading though that with doing the PI Head and PI Intake swap I should get about 60 additional hp with my current bolt ons.

It will be a good learning experience.

I know alot can happen in 30k miles, but I did my pi swap on a stock 96 shortblock with 101k on it and I'm not using oil. It depends on how the 130k was put on it. (beat on it everyday or easy crusing mostly)

The car was well taken car of and I recently did a baseline DYNO on it. It is where it should be so I'd say it is in very good shape. I have had the car six months and I also take care of her alot. She only gets driven on the weekends and I am religious about oil and fluid changes. I am going to get the heads cleaned and polished and purchase some stock cams along with valves for it. I should be getting it tomorrow.

I am still looking for a place to send them off to. I spoke to MMR yesterdan and they said it would be about $600 to get them polished and cleaned.

I wouldn't worry about your car buring too much more oil. You will have a bump in compression due to the PI swap, but it's not like you are going to be pushing 2 quarts out a week. If youre only driving it during the weekend, I really wouldn't worry about it. Most of these guys have to drive their cars everyday, including myself.

I haven't heard of the engine using excess oil with a PI swap. Mine does not.
