Default 500hp on stock motor? & Boost gauge question...

Ok, I just bought my 01 GT convertible 3 weeks ago. It had a Saleen series 2 SC on it. I took it to the track this past weekend and ran 14.7-14.8's. [sm=boosign.gif] I was not impressed. My dad has a 01 Vette with over 600 hp. I wanna be able to at least keep up. I called a guy here in town that does just mustangs and high performance parts for them. He told me i can't get over the 500hp range without having to custom build my block. Is this true? He told me to put on a procharger and i'd be somewhere around that range. Can i get over 500 hp with my motor and 5speed? The SC's already gonna cost me around 5 grand and i dont wanna spend much more than that...Would the block handle nitrous on top of the Procharger w/o blowing?

Also,

I have a prosport boost gauge that reads around the 20 range in vacuum. Whenever i get on it and i'm completely floored through all 5 gears i never even hit the zero on the boost. It usually gets to around 4ps in vacuum. Is this normal? I've read posts of other guys who are getting 9-12 lbs of boost. Why am i not even getting to 0? [sm=dontgetit.gif] All the wiring is hooked up right and there aren't any kinks in the hose. Gauge is brand new.

I don't think you're going to see 500 hp with that blower. I have the Series IVwith a smaller pully and an oversized Crank pully. And I'm barely over 12psi.I also have a Zex wet nitrous kit on my car. But have never used it. My Dynoguy said my engine would explode if I used even a small dose of the gas :- (The only way you're going to keep up to your dad is with very very deep pockets. To do numerous mods. Or buy a modded Cobra...

Oh yea, well i've embraced the fact that there's no way to do it with my saleen blower, but can i get around the 500's with the procharger?

I'm on a Procharger @ 9psi with small cams and pocket ported heads. You may see it with better heads and cams, but not in stock trim.

Man, I threw it away b/c I was so mad at my time. lol. I was running with a friend of mine and he drives an 04 WRX sti and was about 2 tenths ahead of me all three times. I dno if i have a bad tune or what. The guy i bought it from said it had been programmed with a diablo sport tuner, but i've noticed sitting at an idle i'm running rich most of the time. He didnt have the tuner when I bought the car so I'm gonna have to take it to Ford and have them flash it back to stock since its VIN locked so I can have it professionally tuned. But i may wait until after I add the procharger. I just really dno what to do first or where to go from here...

I guess the thing that hasnt been brought up yet is the HP limit on your stock internals. You can run about 400hp on your stock piston rods, but too much more than that and you are running the possability of blowing up. In regards to your actual block though, many have claimed that it will hold over 1000+ HP. If I were you, I would defenitely look at getting forged internals, upgrade to better heads and cams, and defenitely getting it tuned properly.

It probably has a terrible tune... 14.8's with a SC?! Thats sad. You could also try a driver mod before you get knee deep in it all too... after all, you just got the car.[8D]
