I'm buying a 98 GT
This is it guys. I'm getting one. A black 98. Its gonna be sweet. It has a 103,000 miles on it and the guy says it has run perfectly and he has serviced it well. It looks perfect. Only had one owner. Its a manual. I'm wondering what i may expect to go out if anything does anytime soon. How long are these babies supposed to last? Do you think i may need a new tranny soon? I don't have too much money for repairs. Any advice?

good stuff Tremor...hope you like ur new mustang...but yeah what i always tell myself when i get a used car is expect to put anywhere from 300 to as much as 1000 dollars into it right off the bat for minor repairs and tuning, alignment...possibly even tires. You always want it running perfect before you start to mod it. Have fun with the stang tho man.

Andy, you didn't get ripped that is what the car is worth. I paid 7000 for a 98 coupe with 69,000 miles on it, and it was one of the few cars that was bone stock. You get what you pay for, a cheap car may look good, but sometimes the owner knows things we don't know about. Like that one time they drove it for a month low on oil, or how they did 5 burnouts a day for a week. That is why no one wants to buy used cars and they just get new ones.

I bought a 97GT this time last year bone stock with 106k miles on it for about 5500. If you live in a state that does emission testing, make sure when you turn the switch in the on position(before starting)the "Check Engine Light" comes on briefly along with the other lights like theft, seat belt, etc.. If it does not come on, someone either took the bulb out or cut the wires. In Metro Atlanta you will not pass emission if the light does not come on briefly. Instead of the previous owner putting in a couple O2 sensors he cut the wires to make the light go out before selling the car. I had to have that fixed and O2 sensors installed before I could get a tag. Next thing, If the Intake Manifold with the plastic coolant runner hadn't been changed, sooner or later it will crack. Ford did a recall but its expired on our cars. Mine started leaking a little antifreeze around the thermostat housing around last Nov. It was driveable until 2wks ago when it begin to spray antifreeze whenever driven. Last night I completed the change over with a PI Intake(gives more hp then stock intake for 96-98) and believe me, I can really feel a difference in power and torque. Outside of those 2 things, I haven't had any problems with my 97GT. Currently I have 116k miles and running strong.
