Just wondering if any of you 4.6L guys (speicifically 96-98) guys used to have a 5.0 and your opinions on the change. Right now Im lookin at a 98 GT, it will cost me about an additional 1k when I sell my car. I hear everywhere on the net that the 5.0's were better motors and the 4.6 sucks without a pi swap etc. But when I test drove it it didn't feel that bad. 150,000 kms (not miles) underdrive pullies, K&N air filter, and flowmasters. Did any of you regret the change? Even if it is slightly less torque, and not as easy to work on, were you overall satisfied with the car?

It's not quite the same, but my brother in law has a 94 5.0 convertible, 5 speed. And I used to have 97 coupe 4.6L. The thing about them stock for stock is they are almost the same, at least with the early gen 4.6. The 5.0 seemed to have better low end torque though. The vert had 2.73s and my coupe had 3.27s.

I did full exhaust on both and it seemed to wake up the 5.0 a lot more. But the 4.6 definitely got better gas milage from my experiences driving both. The main drawback to the 4.6 in the aftermarket world is once you decide to tackle any engine upgrades, cam, heads, ETC, it's all a lot more involved than with your good 'ol pushrod.

Good luck!

I had an 89 mustang gt and i sold it and bought a 98 gt. The 89 was a aod so it was pretty slow. I had all bolt ons. When i bought the 98 after i tuned it up it was alot faster than the 89. It was only running on 7 cylinders before. The 98 is stock too. Just the mods in my sig if you wanna call them that. My friend bought the 89 and put 3.73's in it. I think my 98 still pulls harder. The 98 pulls really hard for what it is. The 98 will be alot better ride and alot better for comfort. So i say do it. You can make anything fast with a little time and $$$. I dont regret the change at all. I love my 98. My girl does too so thats a plus. She hated my 89.

yep, I went from a car that was paid off and clean as fvck to a new car with a car note. I took $6k of the $8500 that I sold my notch for and put it down on my 01 and still had a $400/mo note for 5 years. If I would have dumped $400/mo in my notch, after a year I would have had a bad a$$ ride. It's not that I like the 93 better than my 01, b ut it was a lot easier to work on, a lot cheaper to mod and was paid for.
I don't have any good pics because I didn't have a digi cam then, but here are a couple that I scanned.

Ugh I just don;t know.... Im worried I will miss my car if I sell it, and I may run into problems with the new one. My fox hasn't me down yet and shows no signs it will. Not to mention I would miss my sound system. I already made plans for someone on this forum to buy it on this weekend, but Im still not totally 100 sure... And its also a really bad weekend for me to go home, lots of school stuff happening.

I've owned some foxes and 2 '96 GTs. Stock for stock they're about the same. The SN-95 rides better, has a better looking interior, updated styling, and a better engine for daily driving. Even with all of that I still miss my foxes. Ha ha. I know I'm going to get another one some day.
