Well today I took my car to the track for the first time and it was a great learning experience for this sunday when I'll be competing in the high school drags. First thing I found out is that my traction sucked. I ran a 14.8 on my first run and then after a couple more I got my launching down and took some air out of my back tires to help with traction. Then as I was adjusting the pressure in my tires a red 05 GT (5spd) pulls in and of course I start drooling at the chance to race him. I pull up to wait to take another run and up comes the 05. We pull into our lanes and take off. I'm about a car length ahead of him and I MISS 3RD GEAR!! I was so pissed, I thought had blown my chance to beat an 05.

I pull back around and wait for my engine to cool off a bit in the parking lot and the 05 parks to do the same. After our engines cool he gets back in his car, looks over at me and asks if I wanna go (hell yeah!) We pull back into our lanes and take off again. I got a good jump and we were neck and neck the whole way down. Then in 3rd gear my 4.10s took over and I pulled ahead with a time of 14.2 @ 95mph.

For my first couple runs at the track I was pretty happy with my best time. I know if I got my traction under control it would of been better, but I was so psyched to beat an '05!!

Get some tires and you could be well into the 13's.

I have some performance tires, they came with a wheel package I got on ebay. They're Nexens and I don't remember the specs on them. They're not bad tires, but some drag radials would be sweet.

How high are you bringing the RPMS when you leave?

With your mods you really should be in the 13s. My buddy with an 00GT ran a 13.8 with about the same mods as you maybe less. Hes got bad traction too. Get some tires, and more practice and you'll be solid in the 13s all day.

I had my rpms around 2-2.5k, I found with higher ones I spun too much.

im having traction problems to with the 4.10, im about to get some deep dishes and some 555r's in about a month to solve that problem then off to the track for the first time

Since you have 4.10's, try sneaking off the line around 1000-1500 rpms. Right now, you are wasting so much time spinning - until you get tires, you should try launching at lower rpms.

Our cars suck to launch without tires or suspension work.

Dude, nexens suck... THey're like riding on rocks..

Get yourself some real nice tires for the strip and put them on your stock wheels. Cheapest way to lower your e/t.

haha they're not THAT bad, but I know I need some better tires. What kind of tires and/or rims would you suggest for the track?
