Default intake manifold help

What is my best bet for switching out the plastic [:'(]intake with an aluminum one? I'm having problems with the heater core line popping off when I am running the rpms too high. Is there anything out there that I can bolt on my '96 4.6 modular without replacing the heads? Have checked with Jegs, Doug Herbert, Summit etc. with no luck. Thanks for the help

how high of an RPM are you turning? The hose for the heater core should be clamped on, I don't see how it can be coming off. Is the plastic piece on the intake the the hose slips on to broken?

oh BTW welcome to the site.

The fitting that sits in the intake manifold is what's coming out. The hose itself is still attached to the fitting. We have used epoxy (I think) to hold the fitting in and it does hold for a while. Unfortunately there is no way to thread the fitting into the plastic.

I decided to "play" with an Irocand was in 4th gear running at about 2800 rpm (about 70-75 mph up a mountain) and dropped it into 3rd, rpms ran high andnext thing I saw was "smoke" out the rear view mirror and the radiator light came on. Limped it home and found the problem mentioned above.

Have you thought about just buying a new intake manifold from your local autoparts store or off of the internet?

Eventually I plan on putting on new heads, cams, throttle body and hopefully a turbocharger.(I love speed and the more the better!! [sm=lol.gif])The motor is still stock but have added a cold air induction system and H-pipes for now. I'd hate to buy a replacement plastic intake now and then buy a new one when I replace all those other items. Is there a company you recommend?? I appreciate your help [sm=thanx.gif]

I'd personally go with a stock PI intake, it'll be an improvement over what you have and is cheap. You can always change it later if you feel like it's holding you back which I don't think will be the case, unless you go with a really radical turbo setup and are trying to squeeze every once of power out of it. In that case the intake for it is going be costly and may not help you in the meantime.

the PI intake you have to do special stuff to make it fit on NPI heads, theres a writeup here...if you're not worried about power, then just get this intake...its an NPI intake manifold with an aluminum crossover...it will bolt right in and replace the plastic one

Thanks for the input....will have to do something soon. It's now in the back of head and I'm not having fun anymore being worried about it happening again.

I would do the PI intake swap. It will gain you some hp.

^ I second that. Yes im boosted, but when i did the PI swap i picked up exactly 30rwhp and 18tq. So say cut that in half with a N/A car, and you should net some decent gains. if youre going to replace your manifold might as well get a little power while doing it
