Possible bad wheel bearing?

Possible bad wheel bearing?
i noticed today at slow speeds i can hear a grinding/humming noise coming from the rear end. The left tire is wearing alot faster than the right. Is this a bad wheel bearing? if so is it a easy fix or just best for a real mechanic to do it.

The axle has to be pulled. If you haven't done something like this before it's best left to those who have and who have the correct tools!
What side is it on? When you turn slowly left or right does it make a metal to metal whine?
That's what mine did when I turned to the left.
I waited too long (drove it like a woman) and had to get that axle replaced. It was a costly lesson.

RE: Possible bad wheel bearing?
Did it do this before the brakes??
If it doesn't make the sound more pronounced when turning, it may not be an axle bearing.. The procedure isn't tough, if you have the right tools.. It's just a little time consuming, since you have to pull the axle shaft out of the axle, and then refill the diff with fluid.. However, if it does this while driving, and gets considerably louder, it could potentially be the actual differential bearings that are going..
How is the tire wearing?? Is it in the middle? Edges? How old are the tires??

well i just took a good look under the car and i noticed 2 of the 4 bolts on the driveshaft connecting to the rear end appear to be loose or have some play in them..could this be anything other than a safety problem?

RE: Possible bad wheel bearing?
Absolutely.. That could cause a good amount of imbalance, or even some vibration when driving...
Tighten up the bolts, and see if it helps.. It may not, but definitely get those snugged up..
