A Ford Tech actualy told you that?[8D][:@] No you do not need a different cover for 4.30's
If he was talking about a Girdle Cover for support that would make sense but still not needed

FYI if this is the same guy that you are gonna have put them in I would look else where. Just my .02

Yes this is from the guy im trusting to put them in.[sm=smiley36.gif] He said he wasnt sure if i would need one. He has put in new ones at ford but just factory parts. He wasnt to sure about performance gears.

I have 4.30's and you do not need a new diff. cover. Nor do you need a new carrier. Everything fits just fine. I know, I installed mine myself.

im not bad with car but i aint great?
he was to tell me how let me do it and him help if i run into trouble.
never change gears before. is it real hard?

and i was also wondering if what the biggest camshaft i can put in mine without changing anything?

and how hard is it putting cams in?
can u leave the motor in car when doing it?

This doesn't even make since, it doesn't matter what gearset you have in, they are all the same physical size. If he thinks this, I would not trust him to install the gears.

The install was actually pretty easy. I had a good set of instructions and took my time. Have had no problems at all. I'm a strong believer that no job is too hard to do yourself if you have the right tools, some patience and good instructions.

As for the cams, they should be last on your list. You won't see much of a gain from them for what they cost. That install is a bit more involved since you have to degree them to be absolutely safe. Doable, but more complicate.

unless you know what your doing i would strongly discourage doingn your own gears. Even professionals mess this up.is it really worth blowing up your rear end because you wanted to save a little money. i do everythign on my vehicles but gears is one thing i will not touch. leave it to the professionals.

If you can't read and don't know how to turn a wrench, then do what this guy ^ says. Otherwise, just be sure you have the right tools and the instructions. I had never done a gear swap before doing mine and I have had 0 whine. I hear about people taking their car to "professionals" and paying out the a$$ only to complain of whine right away. I did my gears just about a year ago and I have had no problems what-so-ever.

Doing your own work on the car is a great way to learn, as well as to be sure everything was done right. Took me three attempts to get the backlash right (shimming and what-not) and I doubt every mechanic is going to take the time to do that on a car they don't care about.
