cylinder head questions
I'm looking to get some ported heads in the future, along with more aggressive cams. I know someone getting rid of some low miles great condition windsor PI heads off a 2000 or 2001 GT for like $400.
how much money is your average machine shop going to run you for a nice port/polish/valve job - along the lines of the Patriot Stage II heads?
would I be better off just getting the patriot heads for $1200 as opposed to getting stockers for $400 and getting them machined?

Im getting my heads ported to stage 2 and it cost 650 for port polish and valve job. If your gonna get a stage 2 cam with em you need new spring kit which will run ya 250.

RE: cylinder head questions
There's alot of different ports you can do from a "pocket" port all the way to a CNC multi angle race port. Another big thing is that you take it to a machine shop with a reputation for doing alot of heads or at least Mustang stuff. A bad PNP will ruin your power and what works on one set of heads doesn't work with another.
From my experience a full multi angle port to open up the intake side does alot more for these engines, than the same thing done to the exhaust side. If you did a pocket port on the exhaust side you'd probably be safe until you start building BIG power (over 500 rwhp).
I don't mind Patriots or any other version of the mail-order 2v heads, but I just got a great deal on my machine work. I paid about 700 with parts for a port, valve job, and reassembly.
