unfortunately our head design is worth ****. Almost to the point that it seems like ford doesn't want mustangs to be fast. If you want to make power N/A it's all in the head porting and cam selection. Since our heads arent worth a damn and no head companies bothered to make good heads for the 2V 4.6 we are pretty much limited to F/I. Sorry to bring the bad news. Swap to a 351 or a 400 and you can make that N/A no prob.

I don't think it's possible, it's hard enough to hit 550hp with f/i so I doubt you can reach it naturally aspirated and definitely you would need forged internals no matter what way you will reach it.
Its not hard to hit 550rwhp on a blown 2v. Maybe on the stock bottom end FTL. MPH made 600rwhp with a built bottom, custom cams, stock heads and a novi-2000. People have made tons of power with FI 2vs.
That's pretty much what I said, but I thought most superchargers run out of steam getting to 550rwhp due to pulley sizes, lackof a very good intercooler,or something else? I heard that from one of nanaki's posts.
Your right that most entry level blowers like an S-trim, P-1sc, Novi-1000, or KB 2.1l run out of breath at that power level, but thats limited by the blower not the engine. If you put a bigger blower into the equation then its a completely different story.

The heads do leave much to be desired, but for a 281ci motor they aren't doing that bad at all in the big scheme of things. A set of ported heads, cams, LTs, O/R pipe, and a few other minor bolt ons and people are seeing low-mid 300rwhp cars. Thats easily a 400 crank hp motor out of 281 cubes. Not bad at all. People seem to forget that were not talking about big blocks here.

It sure would be nice to see a nice set of true aftermarket heads come out for these cars, but the way they are set up a entirely redesigned head would cost so much money to develop. Not to mention that you would most likely have to change more components in conjunction with the heads.

In a nutshell, if 7,8,9 hundred rwhp is really not enough then go get yourself a 4v. Its that simple. Besides do you really think that if new heads came out that they would be any more cost effective than buying a blower when its all said and done? And even if they flowed what the 4vs do, then your still sitting on a ~400hp car that cost way too much money to build and wouldn't be nearly as streetable as a dd when compared to a blower car.

it can be done

big stroker
super high compression
nasty flowing worked npi heads
big cams

550 would probably be the peak, not through the power band

you never see those, though because it'd be stupid expensive to do
