Default Motor swap questions 96 to 2001 4.6

My recent project is to replace my stock 1996 4.6 with a new 2001 PI motor

I just ordered my new motor and the new PI intake manifold. My question is, will all of my existing items bolt up?

Do I need any new brackets or hoses, will my serpentine belt still fit?

Also, I have the 1996 trans, will the flywheel and clutch remain the same?

Since I am retaining the stock 1996 fuel system will I need a tune? I have no other mods yet.

Thanks for the help, I searched but did not find specific answers other than "yes the block fits". I would like to minimize trips to the parts store/dealer after I pull the motor.

Not to highjack the thread, but where did you order your engine from?

It can never hurt to have a tune. Getting the correct and improved fuel maps will increase your mpg and what ever little issue that may creap up. As long as you get a long block with accessories you'll be fine.

You year has a oil level sensor, just just it off the harness and cap it.

I bought a long block, but what about the AC compressor, alternator, water pump, hoses, etc... will it all bolt to the new block with out issue?

The motor I ordered is just in long block form... block, heads and thats it

Yup.... If your a/c works fine now leave your compressor on and just take it off the block and keep the new one "just in case"

What will he have to do for the COP/computer stuff? Are you using the 99-04 ECU and COPs, or the 96 stuff?

I am using my 1996 stuff

I am taking my complete, running 1996 4.6 non PI car and simply swapping in a new long block 2001 PI motor in (comes with no 2001 accessories) I will have to re-use all of my 1996, AC, water pump, power steering pump, etc... Hopefully it all can be used on the new block!

What all needs bought still and done, (rewiring, new parts) ? Hopefully nothing

**I already bought the new PI intake

ORIGINAL: 2000GT4.6

What will he have to do for the COP/computer stuff? Are you using the 99-04 ECU and COPs, or the 96 stuff?
He'll use all the 96 stuff. The only way to use the 99 ECU is if he changes everything, dash, fuel system, & ecu.

Pull the 96 longblock, leaving the a/c compressor lines attatched and the compressor sitting to the side.
Drain all fluids
Diconnect all hvac hoses.
Pull the radiator.
The Pwr Steering will be a b*tch so be prepared.
I like to pull the trans with the engine but thats just me.
Use your started because the 04 will have a diferent connection.
Cut the wire to the oil level sensor. (the new engine doesn't have it)
Since you're getting an 04 you'll still be a Romeo so your good with the clutch. (I used a W and had to buy a new CLutch)

Think of it as just a fresh rebuild.

There is a way to use the COP but thats a bit advanced and I would suggest just getting it running first before doing any of that.

sxynerd, you've been a big help thanks for the input!

What about the new intake, i saw PI head swap kits online and they have a new alternator brackets and coolant lines. Do I need any of those items?

Also, what needed to get a new tune for the new motor? a chip, a tuner?

Thanks Again

I don't know if you mentioned it or not but you'll need the alternator from the 01. If you buy the full motor with intake you wont need anything else.
