Default 93 octane?

I have a '96 GT with minor mods...A 75mm TB, a K&N air filter, underdrive pulleys, a spec clutch, and flowmasters(soon to be SLP LM1's) and I was wondering if it would be better to run 93 rather than 89 or whatever the regular is...There's not much difference on the final price of a full tank so it's not a money issue, it's a performance issue...Does anyone know what would be best?

Buy the cheapest gas you can for now. 93 won't make a difference. All octane is is a resistance to detonation. Unless your timing is advanced or you're running a high compression, you don't need 93 and it won't effect performance at all.

Unless you are tuned for 93, then you won't see any gains or benefits. You can however gain some HP from 93 octane and a tune.

i wouldnt be surprised if you LOST power with 93. It takes longer to detonate. Why would you want that on a car with basically no mods

Well that's why I'm asking, I'm not really the best person to ask about gas, and I know that theres plenty of ppl on here that know a lot of things that I don't and vice versa, that's why we are a community here, to help each other out...

I wish I didnt have to run 93, its pushing 4.00 a gallon here.... thats a 30 cent diff, which adds up each week.

HAHAHA pushing 4$... I filled up today and its over 4 but less than 4.50. But on the topic, don't bother unless you have a tune to advacne your timing to take advantage ov the higher octane level.

I'm glad someone asked the question about octane. I've been pumping 93 octane into mine because I thought it helped it run cleaner and also performed better. Good question CREEKTRACK!
