Default Burning smell inside after midpipe install?

i just installed an mrt catted h on my car, it was used with about 5000 miles on it. i dont think the problem has anything to do with the fact that it was used though.

When i start up my car theres a burning smell inside my car but most noticeablewhen i turn on the air/heat. The best i can describe it is like electrical burning, lead burning, or those and a hint of gasoline. This smell did not exist before the h pipe was installed. Could this be the exhaust "burning in" or the lead gasket on the passenger side also "burning in"?

Theres also the chance that this could be normal after installing an aftermarket midpipe with high flow cats. Any input is appreciated.

What do you guys think?

Normal for a new part because they coat the crap out of the insides with cutting grease. Sounds like something is possibly caught up in front of one for your converters? Is it possible to see the converters with it being off the car and looking on the inside of it? If so, I would check it out. Unless maybe they painted it to freshen it up with some high temp paint then that could be burning off. Just throwing ideas bro.

As RuffCatsuggested it could be something (like an O2 sensor wiring harness) that's in contact with the H-pipe--I would definitely get under there an make sure, before it burns through and shorts out.BTW--there is no lead (or asbestos as well) in any modern, available to the general public, gasket--trial attorneys have seen to that...

oh, yeah i kinda figured it wasnt lead, it looks a lot like it though, and is really soft, like solder or something. its a used stainless steel pipe, it does look pretty clean so maybe they cleaned the outside of it with something. i just got get why it would be coming through the ac vents?

i checked and the 02 sensor wires arent touching the pipe. i actually sat there and smelled it for a while and its just raw gasoline. i only smell it when im at a stop and i have the air vents on, when moving, no smell comes out of the vents. so i think that its just the exhaust that is blowing around the car at a stop getting sucked in by the a/c system

Do you have a leak? The vents are up front so it stands to reason that if you have a leak the exhaust would be drawn into the cab.

i might have one on the drivers side, i cant tell though. when i lug the engine, or give it gas when im goin slow it makes a ticking noise on the drivers side but i dont see how it could be leaking, i checked the connection two times.

heres my exhaust video that i took yesterday, can you have a listen and tell me if it sounds leaky? i lugged the engine in 4th gear at 1:13 to see what it sounded like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR5sFxcehzQ

if the sound is coming from the drivers side is it still a possibility that the passenger side is the one leaking if theres a leak? like i said, when im moving with the a/c on it doesnt smell, its only when the car stops so i figured the exhaust was blowing back to the front of the car

you were right, i kinda had figured it but was denying it to myself lol, there was a leak. took it today and got it checked/fixed. the flare on the pipe that goes over the ball on the exhaust manifold was toowideand needed to be ground down to make a tight seal.
