Default RE: Exhaust Setup

ORIGINAL: NKGT

Hey guys, I'm tired of my 2000 GT's stock sound so I'm getting a nice new exhaust setup. I decided to go with Flowmaster 40s (dual chamber) mufflers. A bunch of guys from the local Stang club have them and I just love the sound. As for the midpipe, I like the sound of an H pipe over the sound of an X pipe. I was leaning towards a Mac O/R Prochamber. That should empty out my Mustang fund so the headers will have to wait.

My questions is about the midpipe.I plan on getting shorty headers eventually but for the time being will a aftermarket midpipe line up with the stock manifolds?YES Also, what do you guys recommend as for an H-Pipe? I'm looking for a nice deep, clean sound. And last, if I decideto stay legal and get a catted H-pipe will there be much of again versus the stock midpipe?
To be quite honest, shorty's are good for sound if that's what your looking for. I have shorty's with a catted x pipe and american thunder flowmaster cat back. I get compliments all the time how it sounds like a muscle car. Although H pipes have the reputation for better sound it causes too much air disturbance to get any real HP/TQ gains. Are you planning of changing the whole cat back or just the mufflers? If you do decide to go LT's then I'd suggest you upgrade the whole exhaust to 2 1/2", because as you buy the mid pipe it will be 2 1/2". All opinions on here though will be based off of personal preference though. Usually what sounds good to one won't to the other.

I have the flowmaster 40's with a bbk o/r x-pipe and love the sound. If you perfer an h-pipe I'd still look at bbk. If you go legal you will still get gains because the aftermarket mid pipe will only have 2 cats vs the stock 4 and you will probbly save some low end torque. The aftermarket mid pipe will bolt up just fine with stock manifold it will likely be just ball and socket.
first we have 6 cats stock and even if you still kept two on there it is technically illegal because you cannot alter a stock emission system, EVEN with two cats still on there. you will prob have an easier time passing emissions, but in states like cali where they do a visual, only two cats will still fail you.

do long tubes or nothing. as for the sound look on youtube and streetfire to see what sound you like

I have Flow 40's and a Pypes catted X, i like it. [8D] Prochamber would be a good choice also. The flows really add a nice deep bellow to the car.

I have original 40's and an O/R prochamber. Best. Sound. Ever.

Hands down, no questions asked.

I don't have any exhaust clips around, I guess I will have to go out and get some tomorrow

Best I have are some videos on facebook from auto-crossing (gives you a great impression of the sound though). If you've got a facebook, take a look:

First one is the best, there was a subaru in front of me at the beginning of the video, which explains the awful noise [8D]

Make sure you get an "Original" Flowmaster 40. The American Thunder and Delta series 40's suck major ***.
what's so bad about the deltas?
