im not sure anyone really does 4 valves a cylinder with just SOHC, but it can be done. spark plug location would be a problem.

Ok, the moving parts of the engine have to be in balance and of sufficient strength in order to rotate at higher rpms, right?

This thing is a modular engine, so I'm assuming the basic design between the Cobra, Mach and 2V is the same. So either the parts are more robust, or the balance is better on the Cobra engines.

Reason I ask is because when it comes time to build up the engine (I'm aware thata SC will work regardless: I'm a purist so I would prefer to have a great engine, not just a powerful engine) it will be important to help decide which parts are replaced, or conversely which engine to hunt for.

The cobra crankshaft is a forged and better balancedcrankshaftthan the one in the gt.The valve springs are the MAIN limit if you wanted to rev higher but you will need to have one hell of a cam. I wouldnt trust the stock connecting rods and pistons much over 7000 rpm either.

its not really the valvetrain or rotating assymbly thats gonna cost you, thats easy, and companies from crower to jesel will have you covered. As its been said before, its the power production thats gonna get you. You'll need custom cams and a short runner intake to see anything more than a spinning tachometer. Your going to sacrifice much of your low end drivability by doing this too, and if your looking for a fun street car that wont be dealing with high rpm launches/stalls, or a wide power band for the corners...your wasting money. You can just as easily buy a readily avaliable aftermarket intake (thats gotHOURS of R&D)and set of lopey cams and be content with a package that 1. works for you, 2. works with your current engine and 3. wont break the bank

sorta off topic but lets clear somethings up

1st... SOHC and 4 valve set ups are common... look at hondas, neons, etc....

usually it LOOKS like a typica cam, but the rocker system splits off and pushes down 2 valves(the subaru boxter style engine comes to mind here).... others 2 lobes deal with the intake, and one does both exhaust

and some yes, look ****in crazy.

id say the limiting factor for us is 1. the connecting rods, damn their small, id love to have something else in there just for comfort. and 2. the as said before, design of our cam profile, if you were to throw a differant cam in the car, with the appropriate springs, i dont see why you couldnt rev it a little higher... but is it nessacery?
