Default Speed that engine heats up?

I have a 2001 GT 2v manual, and I had a 2002 v6 auto before this. My auto would take about 5-10 minutes for the engine temp gauge to begin to move, and the heater would blow cold air for the first 7 minutes or so.

On my GT, the needle moves before I get to the end of the driveway, and it's rarely 45 seconds before hot air is blowing into the car via the heater! I'm not complaning, but is this normal? The car doesn't overheat, but it sure does seem to heat up quickly, at least compared to my old v6.

(note: I know, I'm paranoid about my baby. Sorry.)

sounds a little strange. My GT takes about 5-10 minutes to reach full operating temperature if I am driving it normally.

Mine takes 10 minute to get up to op temp and if I'm driving it can take longer. I have a 180 t-stat and a new radiator.

Hm...

Well, since it never over-heats, then maybe I just have an odd engine. I guess I won't worry about it until it starts getting too hot in there.

Thanks for the replies!

I get hot air pretty quickly, but the needle doesn't usually move for a couple minutes.

Lol... maybe 50 feet. It's not some 3-mile windy thing, if that's what you're asking .

UPDATE (for those who can't sleep wondering whether or not my Mustang will be OK):

When I start the car after being off for more than 5 hours (ie fully cool), the needle moves the INSTANT the car is turned on. It doesn't seem content to sit on it's little perch, and instead climbs about 10* (angular degrees, not temperature degrees) when the car starts. So, I guess it's just calibrated too high, which is why it appears to move quicker than my other one.

Thanks to all who replied!
