PING with 89 grade gas = wtf?
Ive been running 93 grade with my imports over the last 15 years...............but saw that guys are largely using 87 or 89 with their GTs.
Last night when getting hard on my ride, I noted some "ping" ( engine knock).......
Anybody else experience this? Never happens when I run 93 grade but with the cost of gas, was trying to save a few dollars on fill-up.
Also........does Ford tune GT Mustangs to be a bit leaner or richer from the factory?

I've never had that problem when I was stock. Are you running gasoline or e85? Does you car have a tune on it? From the factory it should be fine on 87 unless you got a bad batch of gas.

Depends on how your 89 is distributed I guess. If the 89 is stored in it's own tank and as a "mid" grade it is bought less often than regular or premium it would have time to deteriorate. 87 and 91/93 get pumped out much more frequently so I'd assume it's often better gas that you're getting.

Most manufacturers program the PCMs to run fairly stoic with a certain timing.. I don't think they'd bias it for any specific reason.. In fact, the big reason you can gain more power on a stock vehicle is because the tuner would introduce more timing advance, with a little more fuel trim adjustment to compensate..

If your stock mustang is pinging on 87 octane you have problems. Either your car is tuned and you don't know it or you have a major cooling issue and running 93 is just a bandaid that will fall off down the road and destroy the engine. Got to the dealer and have a reflash done on the computer.

+1 on that. also what did you have done to your imports to warrant 93 octane gas??? It always seems peopleput way too much octane into cars when it is not needed. Very few cars on the road require anything higher than 87/89 gas.
