shifting without gas causes jerk
Well i noticed someone elses thread about the tranny slop and i didn't wanna highjack it soo heres my question
When im driving, rev to 2200 RPMs and go to shift to 2nd/3rd/and maybe 4th (not as bad in 4th), if i push in the clutch, shift it to second and let off the clutch somewhat fast (basically don't baby it out) if i don't give it any gas it will jerk back and forth 2 or 3 times. When im letting out of the clutch i always give it gas though so its smooth. So im wondering how you guys shift your cars and if im gonna wear out my clutch.

Ouch!!! Don't keep on doing that, yes it puts wear on your clutch, and prob isnt good for a lot of other thing like your driveshaft and U-joints, rev your motor up and let up on the clutch slowly for it to engage when you downshift/upshift...

Yeah, I thought that whole thing went along with learning how to drive a clutch. From first to second and second to third you need to give the car a bit of gas when engaging the next gear so it doesn't do that. From third to fourth you don't need to though.

It's funny, every time I read a "tranny problem" like this I seem to be psychic with guessing the years of the cars. 3650.
I think that is normal for any car, with age, but WTF is with the 3650?
WTF?

Tremec 3650 trannys are fine....they just need the TSB kit installed and a after market shifter such as the Steeda tri-ax. I have this done to mine and its like shifting warm butter. I have never missed a shift....it would be hard to miss a shift in any gear.. They got a bad name because they released them flawed. I am very happy with my 3650...but maybe I am one of the few who has one that is right?

Good answer, nathansmith50. You are lugging the engine too much in your gears. You simply need more rpm's before you shift in each gear, and, you may be shifting too slow as well. If you are at too low an rpm on your shifting (no matter what gear) the car will buck like crazy. This is "lugging" the car. Not a good thing to do under any circumstance. It will, as mentioned above, wear out a whole host of parts on you. Just because you have 5 speeds, it does not mean you have to get into 4th or 5th all the time. Unless out on the highway, you may never need to shift to 5th. This will actually also get you better gas performance because "lugging" causes alot of unburned and dirty fuel to pass through your engine and crankcase causing instant sludging and/or contamination of the oil....unless you run synthetic which is also a smart idea.
You may also have what used to be referred to as "praire gears". This is a very low ratio rearend gear such as 2.73's which will totally exaggerate the problem and make it even harder to run smoothly. Get gears.....3.73's or some such thing. It will make the car act like a new vehicle and give you a big shot in the *** for acceleration. AND, in your case, it will make it infinitely easier to shift as your rpm's will rise much faster with this gear ratio. You problably will never have this complaint again......PLUS.....you will have a big fat grin on your face from the added performance.
