welcome, your best bet is just to hang out in the forums every once in awhile and hear what people have to say about different parts. You can learn alot from some of these guru's

A heavily modded car has a better chance of being abused by the previous owner. If your planning on keeping her awhile, I would try and find one that is as stock as possible from preferably an older owner

Most people will say by a car with as little as mods as you can. 1) so that you know what is on it if you do Mod and you know how good it was put on. 2) Because most moded cars have been beat on and that realy is no big deal but if the person did not also take care of the car it could give you problems later.
Plus the only way to learn is to do things yourself. And +1 on just learning by reading threads.

The ideas you have for your car are good. One VERY IMPORTANT thing, do not mod the car at all for months. I know what is in your head as i was where you are 10 years ago, and I was mature for my age at 16, but do not mod the car until you get used to driving it. Especially if you jump to a supercharger ( s/c) early that is a big power improvement quickly.

if you don't have a lot of experience start small mods, exhaust(except headers=PITA), CAI/RAI, Pulleys, etc.
