yesterday i drove my car to the bank down the street the engine temp was normal and i run in run out maybe like 5 minutes the car was sitting. I turn the key when i get back and i get it to kick over normal but the second it does i hear a pop out of my exhaust then it dies like a missfire. Starts fine the second attempt drive home then shut off and see if i can get it to do the noise which it did. My mechanic said just water in the gas most likely but he has never seen anything like that. anyone know what it could be??? i tried putting some dry gas in there but havnt driven the car sense i put it in so i don't know if it worked or not.

If your car sits for a while then it could be the water in the gas, expecially if its humid. Could also be bad gas. Have you driven it yet?

I just got done driving it with the dry gas mixture in it went to the mall it sat for like 10 mins or so then started right up. Drove home put it in the driveway shut it off then tried starting it back up and it did the pop noise and died again. I'm lost on what it could be.

try this to see if there is water in the gas. get a clear glass jar or bottle, and clean it really good and make sure it dry. remove your fuel filter and try not to spill to much of the gas out of it. then drain it into the bottle. If there is water in there you will see it seperate like oil and vinegar. Would'nt be a bad idea while your there anyways and install a new fuel filter.

Could be a leaking injector. It would cause extra fuel in the cylinder that would backfire once it hits the exhaust.

my car used to do that too and i took off the tank. i found in all seriousness about 1lb of rust in there. 2 gas tanks and a 1 fuel pump later and my car is running great. scratch that wa running great until 2 days ago when my other misfortune happend

My 95 5.0 did not pop, but it died alot on me and everybody kept saying it was the EGR sensor. The popping is weird though.. Tell us if you figure it out.
