Throttle Cable Slack...

Throttle Cable Slack...
I saw an article on Mustang World about taking slack out of the throttle cable by using a 1 inch nylon spacer and some hose clamps. I was curious if anyone had done this and how effective the results had been (ex. didn't stretch the cable or break the plastic retainer holding the cable in on the accelerator linkage). The article mentioned that it would bring the gas pedal almostlevel with the brake pedal. I am assuming that the 1 inch spacer doesn't take to much slack out of the cable and make the car idle higher than it normally would?

I did it! It worked great but it didn't bring it up as much as the article said but it brought it up enough so that I could "heel-toe" the brakes/accelerator when I'm road racing! I like it alot and it gives the car instant throttle response!

I have done this cheap little mod also, it does help. It will be different though, your feet will have to adjust for a while. I've had mine done for about 5 months now and havent had any problems. Your not going to stretch or break a steel cable, at the most you would break the retainer that holds it in the TB, but like I said mine has been through quite a few punches and it's fine.

I think what I meant when I said "Throttle response" is that without the mod there is a slight lag as you push on the pedal sincethe slack in the cable has to tighten up whereas by doing this mod the cable is already taught so it responds quicker! Sorry for the confusion!

So, the spacer has yet to break anything...I was thinking that maybe since the pedal no longer hits the floor when fully depressed that it could create stress on the retainers at the top of the pedal assemblyor throttle body. Sounds like the right foot is going to have to learn how to adapt to a new environment.
