Bad Belt Tensioner?

Bad Belt Tensioner?
Hey guys I tried searching this but the search apparently doesn't like me so I'm making this new tread:
Yesterday I was driving home and all of a sudde heard a tap/knocking come from the engine bay. I immediately pulled the car into a lot and checked it out...I gave it a bit of gas and sure enough the taps/knocks would vary directly with the rpm's..which made me almost have a heart-attack since I thought it was the engine.
Anyway on the last glance in the engine bay I noticed that the tapping sound was actually my belt tensioner. Every time I would hear the 'tap,' the belt tensioner would 'jump.' So I'm assuming that the noise is coming from the belt tensioner slapping up against the supercharger, but I havent had time to inspect it since the engine bay was hot as hell and I had to go out of town.
So...has anyone seen something like this? I still havent had a chance to really yank on the belt to see if the tensioner is obviously no good but I'm wondering if this is an obvious sign of a bad tensioner?
By the way! Sitting in the engine bay was a VERY fine strip of the belt...apparently the very edge of the belt got chewed off.
Thanks for reading...thoughts?
