Default RE: removing air silencer

ORIGINAL: ackuric

ahh removing the 'air silencer'. I'd rather keep the boot on and suck in air thats at least 30 degrees cooler from the fender. Funny thing is I read in an article where they lost a tenth or two from removing the silencer in the quarter mile, put it back on and they were back to running a tenth or two faster. I feel my car runs stronger for longer (especially after the cars been running and the engine compartment is 150+ degrees) with the boot on.
Well i'm pretty sure the filter housing helps a bit. Either way, you could cut off the narrow part of the air silencer so that it still makes a tight seal around the fender but still have a nice big opening.
