Default cats on stock h pipes

i read a post on here recently that said from 96-98 the factory h's had 6 cats on them and from 99-04 they had 4..but my 99 has a stock h on it but it has 6 cats? so does that meanit's off a 96-98 GT?

Well, there is really only 4 cats, the other 2 are just resonators.

My 99 only had the 4 cats, no resonators. Are you sure you have a PI motor? lol

lol thats a good question..but the only thing i was thinkin about was that i bought the car at southern auction up here in CT, the title is clear and its a never hit car and according to carfax its the original motor, however the car came with flowmaster 40's and a bbk cai so inorder to go through the auction as an "ok" car it has to pass emissions-having said that the car could have had an o/r midpipe- its possible but theres no way to really find out..so maybe the dealer it came from swapped out the mid pipe...but thats the only reasoning i can think of...if its a pi motor its stamped on the heads right?

Yea that could be the case, at least it sounds logical.

The easiest way would be to look at the intake manifold, the bottom of it should go almost all the way to the bottom of the valley on the block if its a PI intake, and yes from what I hear it should be stamped on the heads also.

Your good then, sounds like someone just swapped a 96-98 midpipe on your car. I would definatly look into getting a o/r midpipe, that thing is probably robbing power and more sound than normal.

yea definately man..i have a upr o/r xon the way...but im surprised that the car isnt quieter the way it is now because all it has is 40 series mufflers...you would think with 6 cats it'd be silent

Well you should be happy with your UPR X, its gonna be a night and day difference in sound once you get it on.
