Default tranny swap?

any one here ever done a auto to 5 speed swap? a friend of mine owns a junk yard and to make a long story short he has an 02 gt convert that was stolen in 2002 and has been sitting there ever since. the car is completely messed up but only has 15 miles. the thing has no miles on it and its 5 speed. theres a car on top of it but he told me i could have anything i wanted to do the swap. my question is how hard of a swap am i looking at? and would the tranny be any good sitting there this long? any help would be great. thanks

theres alot of work in this, but it may might be worth it...

your gonna need the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, the entire transmission, clutch fork, throw out bearing, driveshaft, all brackets and crossmembers, shifter, new shifter console, and most important of all a TUNE

i might be missing somehting, but i think that covers it. the tune will be the most important thing. a dyno is reccomended for this. not a canned tune

you'll also need the transmission wiring harness and might as well steal the ECM from it so you dont necessarily need a "tune".

heres my list and you can pretty much just compare, but note that i swapped a built tko600. [ul][*]TKO-600 TCET4617[*] TKO-600 to 4.6L Bellhousing[*]31 Spline Yoke[*]*1330 U-Joint or Aluminum Driveshaft that comes w/ the 1330 U-Joint & 31 Spline Yoke from FRPP[*] 5 Speed Pedal Assembly[*] Spec Stage 3 Clutch & Pressure Plate[*] Pilot Bearing[*] Throw-Out Bearing[*] *Steeda Triple PickupClutch Quadrant[*]*Steeda Firewall Adjuster[*] *Bullitt/Mach Pedal Covers[*]OEM Ford Clutch Cable (Best cable according to Maximum Motorsports)[*]*Pro5.0 Shifter Handle[*] *FRPP Aluminum Brushed Shifter ****[*]*Shifter Boot & Bezel[*]1 Clutch Fork[*]1 Clutch Fork Pivot Bolt[*]*8 (or 6 depending on your engine) Flywheel Bolts (stock ones can be reused)[*] 8 (or 6)Bolt Flywheel (M-6375-G46 8Bolt or M-6375-F46 6Bolt)[*]Lower Clutch Cable Retainer (small c clip thats $1 or something from ford)[*]Pressure Plate Bolt & Dowel Kit for 11" (or 10.5" Clutch)[*] GM Synchromesh Fluid - GM Dealer (recommended for TKO's)
[*] *Manual Wiring Harness (without one, you'll have to tie the old automatic lever and leave it in neutral to drive the car, and you'll never have a reverse light)
[*]*Manual ECM (without one, you'll need a tune to turn off the automatic function on existing ECM)[*] *SCT Chip or Diablosports Chip (depending on tuner's preference)[/ul]*item is not required but recommended.

I went from auto to a t56, I didnt do the swap cause it's a tad bit different swapping in a t56 into a gt than it is a 5 speed. I didnt wanna deal with the difference and possibly screwing up lols. It is definately worth it and will pay for itself 10x over in fun factor level=P

haha mike whats up ?

and yeah its definitely worth that extra 5-7% drivetrain gain from switching auto to manual i say its only worth it if you're swappin in a built tranny or t56 but in your case its worth it since its free!

I swapped mine out. It was a pretty straight forward swap. It was a lot easier then when I swapped my 5.0L from an auto to a manual wiring wise.
