Default Holy Crap, Now I'm Confused!!!

Ok, so the Ford house calls me back to day, and this is approximately what they say regarding double checking to make sure it was or was not just a fualty O2 sensor, bank 1 downstream:

"I had my tech call Ford and they explained that since you have that aftermarket intake (K&N FIPK) installed, it's causing it to run lean on that one side"

I explained to the guy that the light came on before I installed the intake, which made him sound kind of puzzled. He said the light was going to stay on all the time unless I put the factory intake back on. He also said he had the O2 sensor swapped out and the light would go off for a minute, then come back on. Again, I told him the light was on before I ever took the stock intake off of the car.

WTF??!??

Now I am really super confused and don't know wtf to do. He said he would advise the tech of this and call me back. Has ANYONE had any trouble whatsoever with a check engine light after they installed their intake? I seriously doubt this is the problem, especially since it came on prior to me installing the aftermarket one. On top of that, why would it run lean on just one side? This is starting to turn into a nightmare! Should I just get the eliminators to turn off the rear sensors? He also said he thinks the cat checked out ok, but will have the tech double check.

Rear sensors do not sence lean. Ford techs are complete morons. You are better off bringing your car to a 5 year old and have him tell you whats wrong.

Lean on one bank is a vacum leak. Find it and fix it.

OK, I work at a dealer, and I'll be the first to tell you. If you have a completely stock car and there's a problem, take it to a dealer, they'll do a good job. If you have any aftermarket parts on the car at all, don't waste your time and money. They'll probably blame the problem on the aftermarket piece.

Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the code for you, come back here and tell us the code and we'll tell you the problem. Ford techs are morons and will blame anything on aftermarket parts.

Well I called the Ford house back and asked them to double check any vacuum leaks. His first response was "it would have thrown an HVAC code but we'll check it out." If they can't find anything I'll run it by autozone and get the code from them. This is starting to be such a big hassle that I'm considering returning the car back to the dealer and just look for another one...[:@][:@][:@]

Na keep your head up, nothing good ever comes easy. If they dont find any vac leaks then run it by AZ and get the code, it should be a P0xxx number, and we can help you more from there on.

Good to know. I'll run it by AZ once I get the car back. I'll keep everyone posted once I get info. Thanks guys again for all of your help. Another thing, do you think there could be an exhaust leak pre-cat? I'm trying to search as much as I can online for people having similar problems. What exactly causes a lean mixture? Isn't it too much air and not enough fuel? Oh, and my Hypertech PPIII comes in tomorrow so I should be able to read the code myself if I don't get the car back today...

There could be, but you would hear it if it was that bad. Its just funny that one day they say its an o2 sensor and then the next day they say its a lean code. Sounds like they are just trying to play it off on anything.

Yes your Hypertech should be able to read your code also.
