Default breakin gears?

i hear you should heat cycle your gears or breakin period of 500miles. i just had my 3.73 installed on my 2002 and i punched 4th on interstate after about 60 miles on the new gears. anybody think this may cause problems down the line? im going to change gear oil after about 1500 miles or so.

you should be ok. you should really let the gears go through a few heat cycles to let the seals seat. such as drive it for a half hour let it cool for at least half a hour. do that like 3 or 4 times and then you should be good to go. thats how i did it at least.

i still start in 1st gear with 4.10s but i get what you're saying. 1st gear's a pain the *** now 'cause it revs up really fast

and about breaking in the gears...when i got mine installed they said i could start getting down on it after about 30 minutes of driving

When i had mine put it in. They drove around with me to check for any noise. There was no noise and he said that was the heat cycle. We let it cool down and then he told drive it how you normally drive it. Mines been fine since. I still took it easy for a good 200-400 miles though getting on it a couple times.

iv said it before..and ill say it again. i left sideways from my install and have had 0 problems since..

the reason they tell u to break em in is so it covers the installers *** if theres a problem. when u go test drive a new car, do u not beat the hell out if it with wat 10 miles on the car? do you hear any gear noise NO...do you know why? cause they where installed correctly.

sweet, thanks for all the responses and im sure they were installed correctly! So starting in second gear with 3.73s doesnt really put any more stress on the transmission? im not launching the car from second gear. atleast i havent tried it yet
