Default gears and a supercharger....3:73 or 4:10.....

I have an 04 Saleen 281SC with a 5 speed and want to upgrade from the stock 3:27gears. Something tells me 4:10's are a bit too much although some people seem to think 3:73 aren't enough.....I know, 3:90's but again it's supercharged (close to 400hp). Won't first gear be useless with 4:10s?

Any thought are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

First gear in a S/C car will be useless in just about any ratio. The wife's Stang has a Vortech SQ-V2 @14lbs and she has 4.10's. The car is just about at redline in 4th at the end of the 1/4, but the 4.10's are SO much fun.

14lbs? jesus! did you get forged internals to run at that? if so, how much did that cost you? i'm going to be running @ 9psi when i get mine thrown on (hopefully this month). the guy that had it before me was running 11psi on stock internals.

Had stock internals to 8psi, jumped to 10psi and smoked the bottom end. Went with a DSS forged SuperMod shortblock. The cost was around $4,000.00.

well a problem can arise when you have to much gear when you over rev the S/C ..I run 3.73 and I'm about at 46,000 rpm's on the S/C and it's rated at 50k...now if I went 4.10's I'd be right around it.....3.27 is a great gear for relibilty on the S/C ..'55 would be a lil better and great use of 1st gear......maybe go 3.55 and make a pulley change and use a PMS to fine tune another 25-30 hp out of it

DAMN....46,000 rpms!! What kind of jet engine are you running. NASCAR wishes it could push those numbers. It sounds more like an F-16 to me. I think you need to check your zeros.

3.73s with a charger, 4.10s NA.

That's what I've been told by the almighty Sidewayz.

shorter gearing can be detrimental to ETs with too much power because you'll have to shift that extra once or twice.
