Default Help me design my PI swap.

Well, like the title says.

Please include prices and where you found them. Here's what I would like to do:

02+ Intake manifold (alum crossover)
99+ PI heads
New valve springs and titanium retainers
Crane/CC/VT hot street cam

Thanks.

a mustang performance guy told me cams arent worth it... he said cams only gave 5 rwhp... is that true? cause that seems like a waste of 500 bucks for 5 rwhp to me if thats true?

that's wrong. dead wrong.

Acer, how much power do you want to make, and how much cash do you want to spend? i would reccomend a VT swap kit, and purchasing a used pi manifold. very effective, and worth the money. spit out some numbers and i'll make some suggestions.

Ask around your city dude. I know where I'm getting my heads and intake from for only $250. My mechanic has an '01 engine with bottom end damage just sitting out back. I'm going to get the heads and intake cleaned up and checked soon. If you guys have a bulletin or something, just put an ad for whatever you're looking for and someone might have it for cheap, or you can pay full price for everything. Patience is a virtue.

well, depends on if you can do the work yourself. if so, you can pick up a set of heads and a pi manifold for a few hundred bucks. throw in some comp cams and springs, all the needed bolts gaskets etc... and you've spent maybe 1200-1500 in parts, shipping etc... throw it all in will cost you time, and with some good tuning you could do it for under 2K. but you might run into extra expenses, problems, etc along the way, so be sure to have the money to cover it if you need to replace an injector or a spark plug etc.. little crap. if you pay a shop to do it, you can probably give them a set of heads you find cheap, and buy cams from them.

i would reccomend VT's stage 1 kit. i think it's like 12-1400, and comes with everything, you can get that done in the 2K range.

What kind of #'s would that produce as far as RWHP? That's new cams, intake and heads correct?

I have everything but the heads. lol. And just to let you all know there is a difference in head design if you plan on going without head work. So right now i have Ford Racing Shorty headers, PI intake, and all assc. for install... I have done a few things at the dealership so i have every single gasket for the 4.6 made. lol. But i wanna get ARP head bolts... except they are like 200 bunx. lol. Now all i gotta find out is where to get heads and what cams to use....and where can i find a site that sells cams (which are best) also do the cams come with certain rate springs ? Or are all 4.6 aftermarket springs the same.

Call VT or Fox Lake Racing and tell them what you are wanting and how much $$ you want to spend. They will point you in the right direction.
